44 Charles Street by Danielle Steel

Danielle Steel is a renowned American novelist. She has created a niche for herself in the category of romantic and drama novels. Issues related to family and human relationships have been the dominant aspect of her novels. Ironically she never had luck with marriages as she walked down the aisle five times, devoid of love, emotions.

Her latest novel 44 Charles Street is about a strong bonding forged between four strangers when they start living together. Not only they become friends but also they share their stories just like a family.

The story starts at a dull note when the main protagonist, an art gallery owner, seperates from her boyfriend. In order to support herself financially, she opens her village home at 44 Charles Street to boarders. The story takes into account of a year spent together by four strangers in a house.

Posted on 15 February 2011 by RK

It will be fascinating to see Atlas Shrugged on silver screen when it hits theatres on April 15th this year. The movie has been in pipeline for some time now; A-list Hollywood stars like Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Russell Crowe, and Brad Pitt have been linked with the project. Interestingly, the first part does not boast of an envious starcast. Directed by Paul Johansson, the movie is made in three parts. For now, only the first part is ready. The first part’s trailer was screened for the first time at the Conservative Political Action Conference. The movie stars Paul Johansson, Taylor Schilling and Edi Gathegi to name a few. Paul Johansson is best known for his roles in “One Tree Hill” and “Beverly Hills 90210.”

Till then, keep your fingers crossed in anticipation of justice the movie will do to the novel.

Delhi Noir book launch

Posted on 22 May 2010 by Sanga

Following the success of their acclaimed noir anthology series, the latest publication by Akashic books re-introduces readers to a city that amidst its high rise buildings, still shelves polluted patchworks of its stains.

book cover

Delhi Noir- a collection of short stories by fourteen different authors and edited by Hirsh Sawhney was released in the capital yesterday at the Garden Restaurant, Lodhi Road. The launch, followed by a lively chat between the editor and a few of the authors on stage, involved topics ranging from inspiration, background, genre and language. An examination of the darker side of ‘Delhi’s development’ and its different faces as portrayed by each author in their stories, the book definitely does not seem to lack any true-to-life characters.

Though some of the authors were fairly new and a few others quite unheard of, there is little to make one doubt that these are writers one must get to know. At a time when popular literature and media might focus on the slumdog and IIT stories, Delhi Noir presents a raw, dark, yet brilliant picture, exposing the underbelly of India’s sprawling capital.

We,The Children of India

Posted on 21 May 2010 by Sanga

book coverLeila Seth may be the mother of an author who wrote one of the longest novels ever published. But like any anxious parent, what the first woman Chief Justice of India wants most is for kids across the nation to learn from a young age, the fundamentals of becoming a good citizen. Reliving her dream of demystifying the Constitution’s Preamble for children, Seth lucidly breaks it down for India’s young citizens in her new book titled We, The Children of India: The Preamble To Our Constitution.

With a strong belief that unless they understand the full meaning of the Preamble, kids will never be equipped to respect equality of any kind, she says “The Preamble is one long sentence that gives you the essence of the Constitution, which if learnt will make them better equipped for tomorrow.”

Adding that Indian children aren’t exposed to a universal value system, which is where the Constitution steps in, she says, “India has a very good Constitution that sadly, isn’t taught to our children at the right time. When they are younger, it becomes part of their consciousness. By the time they are 12, opinions are already established and it’s too late. Whereas in the US, it’s compulsory education at a much younger age.”

Arrack In The Afternoon Delhi Release

Posted on 10 April 2010 by Sanga

Arrack in the afternoon is potent stuff. So when author Mathew Vincent Menacherry launched his debut novel at TGIF, Saket today we expected nothing but the most compelling stuff. Nope, all reference here points towards literary sparkle, if arrack made you thought of an early weekend blast…well, go read a book! And if you ask which one… Mathew’s novel seems like an interesting enough read.

The premise is simple enough but quite interestingly dealt with. When a chronic alcoholic decides he is a failure at everything, he decides to end his miserable life. Ironically, even that turns into a failure. So, when the strange twist of circumstances propels him towards a new life as a reformed godman, he starts off on an unlikely journey that shows us a new and chaotic India where in between the tussle for right and wrong, everyone is desperately trying to get a move ahead.

Anyway, in between the sizzling hors devours and informal chats, we loved being at the venue. Listening to the author answer other Harper Collins writers’ questions, sipping non-arrack, and meeting new faces, we had an afternoon well spent. Ah! New books, always the apple of our I’s :)

Delightful New Spine For Vampire Fans!

Posted on 07 April 2010 by Sanga

There is good news in store for lovers of all things Twilight.   Hachette India has recently announced the upcoming release of Stephanie Meyer’s latest book. Titled ‘The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: An Eclipse Novella’- this will Meyer’s latest addition to her hugely popular Twilight saga after a nearly two year long hiatus.

Set to hit Indian bookstores on the 5th of June, the novella will give readers a softer look at Bree who made her first appearance in Eclipse as part of the vampire army created by Victoria. After playing a short lived, comparatively darker role amongst the wolf pack and the Cullens, the reason behind Meyer’s decision to dedicate an entire book to her character is already creating quite a buzz of interest among book lovers.  In Meyer’s own words the book itself is as much of a surprise to her as it will be to her fans. In her official web page she writes, “The reason why it’s a surprise was that I never intended to publish this story as a stand-alone book. I began this story a long time ago—before Twilight was even released. Back then I was just editing Eclipse, and in the thick of my vampire world. I was thinking a lot about the newborns, imagining their side of the story, and one thing led to another. I started writing from Bree’s perspective about those final days, and what it was like to be a newborn.”

In what the author promises to be another irresistible combination of danger, mystery, and romance, the story of Bree and the newborn army is what fans will be looking forward to most this summer.. Along with the book, Bree’s character will also be featured prominently in the upcoming movie from Summit Entertainment. As a special thank you to her fans, Meyer’s website will give exclusive viewing access to the novel on a dedicated website for a month beginning Monday, 7th June through Monday 5th July.
